VAN DER STEEN, EUGENE B. “STONY”
Eugene Van Der Steen, of Kaukauna, age 75, died on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at Brewster Village. He was born March 24, 1932 in Little Chute, the son of the late Harold and Mary (Romenesko) Van Der Steen. On August 27, 1953 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Kaukauna, he married Angela De Goey. Stony served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner and operator of Van Der Steen Electric for over 40 years. Stony was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Kaukauna American Legion Post 41 and Kaukauna Electric City VFW Post 3319. He enjoyed the Packers, camping at Berry Lake and woodworking. Stony loved spending time with family and friends and his grandchildren all have a “treasure” that grandpa made in his workshop.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years: Angela Van Der Steen, Kaukauna; children: Sue Van Thiel, Ken (Wendy) Van Der Steen and Amy (Dan) Doolittle, all of Kaukauna; daughter-in-law: Tina (Rob) Romportl, Kaukauna; 16 grandchildren: Ryan (Becky), Alyssa (fiancé Mark) and Brett (special friend Sam) Van Thiel; Jennifer, Michelle, David and Steven Van Der Steen; Billy, Tyler, Cody, Danny and Kaylyn Van Der Steen; Leah and Eric Van Der Steen; Michelle and Kyle Doolittle; 3 brothers: Clifford (Diane) Van Der Steen, Menasha; Jerry (Carol) and Tom Van Der Steen, both of Kaukauna. Stony is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Dan and Tom Van Der Steen.
The funeral liturgy for Stony will be held on Monday, September 3, 2007 at 5:00 pm at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL – ST MARY’S SITE, 119 W. Seventh St., Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 2:00 pm until the time of mass.
