Age 98, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2003. Ethel was born in Iron River, Michigan, daughter of the late Bert and Elizabeth (Verville) Baumgartner. She attended the University of Northern Michigan – Marquette as well as the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, and received a teaching degree. Prior to her marriage to Dr. Reginald Deloria on August 18, 1931 she taught school in Michigan’s upper peninsula. Dr. Deloria died in 1956. In 1964, Ethel married Dr. Ray Van Susteren who passed away shortly after their marriage. Ethel will be most remembered as a longtime English and Reading instructor at the Kaukauna High School.
She is survived by a daughter: Suzanne (Dennis) Wydeven of Kimberly; two grandchildren: Nicole (Michael) Hochholzer of Combined Locks and their children Katrina and Nathan; Reg (Mary) Wydeven of Kimberly and their daughter Ebben; a sister: Dorothy Houghton of Pontiac, Michigan; two sisters-in-law: Miriam Baumgartner of Kimberly and Lenora Baumgartner of Scottsdale, Arizona. Ethel is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, sisters Iva (John) Fish, Lucille (Willard) Buchholtz, Marjorie Stakoe, and Elizabeth Baumgartner; three brothers: Clarence Baumgartner, David Baumgartner, and Walter (Mildred) Baumgartner.
The funeral liturgy for Ethel will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 119 W. 7th Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Robert Udulutsch officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the hour of the services.
