Esther L. Thiel

Age 92, of Appleton, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2002 at Cherry Meadows Hospice. She was born on October 6, 1909 in the Town of Rantoul, the daughter of the late Sylvester and Anna (Berg) Plapper. She married Blase Thiel and together they owned businesses in St. Anna and Hilbert prior to moving to Appleton. She then became employed at Lawrence University for over twenty years. Upon retiring she became a caregiver. Esther was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Parish and loved to play cards.

Survivors include her three children: David (Elisabeth) Thiel, Delores Novotny, and Linda (Frank) Peterman; grandchildren: Deborah (Robert) Hall, Boyd (Stacey) Thiel, Denise Thiel, Scott (Lynn) Stevenson, Todd (Nancy) Stevenson, Judd (Judy) Stevenson, Tina (David) Godin, Tara Johnson, Dennis (Stephanie) Peters, Kevin (Connie) Peters, great grandchildren: Kate Marie and Laura Jo Hall, Alexis and Hunter Thiel, Ali and Lizzie Stevenson, Ashley and Amber Stevenson, Tyler and Taylor Stevenson, Briana and Ian Godin, Scott and Lauren Peters, Matthew and Ashley Peters, and a brother in law Norm Dettman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter Jeanette Peters, and great grandchild, Matthew W. Peters, three sisters: Ruth Kasper, Marie Dettman, and Madeline Tschantz, and a brother Harold Plapper.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (222 E. Fremont St.) with Father Robert Karuhn officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home and again from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. A prayer service will be at 7:30 on Tuesday night.
