Age 93, passed away peacefully as she slept early Monday afternoon February 5, 2001. She was born on June 12, 1907 in Appleton, the only daughter of the late Dr. George E. and Grace (Wilson) Johnston. She was involved in dentistry in Appleton her entire life. She loved working in her father’s office and continued after his death to be employed by Dr. A.W. Zwerg. She then went on to enjoy many years of employment in the office of Drs. R.E. Gosse and C.W. Edwards. She retired from there in 1980. Esther was a lifelong member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Appleton, a member of Fidelity 94 Order of Eastern Star for over 75 years, and belonged to Valley Shrine 10 White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Esther is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John Belling of Appleton; her grandson, Scott ( Nicole ) Belling of Graham, NC; her two granddaughters , Susan (John) Schemm and Julie (Kurt) Kemps; her 5 great grandchildren, Laura, Steven, and Lynn Schemm; Katie and Michael Kemps, all of Appleton. She is further survived by four special cousins: June (Charles) Hoeppner of Appleton; Ruth (Harold) Glasscock of Greenville, TX; Evelyn Schulz of Milwaukee; and Quentin (Ermagard) Kuenzli of Appleton.

Memorial services for Esther will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2001 at 11:00 AM at the Wichmann Funeral Home with the Rev. John McFadden officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the services. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
