Age 85, died Monday, January 19, 2004, at Cherry Meadows, Appleton. Erna was born on April 28, 1918 in Isaar, Wisconsin, to the late Louis and Anna (Boehm) Ullmer. She married Harry J. Lopas on June 14, 1941; he preceded her in death on December 27, 1998. Erna was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, making quilts; her family was blessed with her baking and cooking talents. She was a member of the Appleton Heart Club and cared for the welfare of the turtles at Heckrodt Nature Preserve. Survivors include her sons, Gene (Arlene) Lopas, Chippewa Falls, and Jerome (Julie) Lopas, Menasha; her sister, Edna Hartford, Diamond Head, Arkansas; her brother, Harvey (Angeline) Ullmer, Pulaski; her sisters-in-law, Joan Ullmer, Pulaski, Grace Ullmer, Issar; and her brother-in-law, Ray Lawe, King: and Merlin "Jim" (Doris) Lopas, Appleton. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ray, Bernard, Louis Jr., Marvin, Elmer "Tom" Ullmer and her sisters, Mathilda, Florence, Gertrude and Marie. The Funeral Liturgy will be at NOON, January 22, 2004, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 212 Appleton Street, Menasha, with Fr. Paul Radetski officiating. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Neenah. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Erna's name to benefit the Elisha D. Smith/Menasha Public Library. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Cherry Meadows, Appleton Medical Center, and Dr. Avi Bar-Lev and Dr. Stephen Dernlan for their loving care.
