Ermagard (Erma) Kuenzli, age 101, died in her apartment at Island Shores Senior Assisted Living Facility in Neenah, Wisconsin on December 6, 2017. She was born June 14, 1916 to Wilhemine “Minnie” and Paul Holtz and was raised in Appleton, Wisconsin. She married Quentin Kuenzli on December 25, 1943. They had two children; Ann (Bill) Guyon of Appleton, Wisconsin and Mary Lou (Dwight) Mueller of DeForest, Wisconsin. Mary Lou and Dwight have three children: Lauri (Sol) Shockman of Wausau, Wisconsin, Jeff (Holly) Mueller of Brisbane, Australia, and Brian Mueller of Madison, Wisconsin and one great grandchild, Silas Shockman. Erma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of sixty-three years, and two brothers: Helmut (Marie) Holtz and Arnold Holtz.
Erma attended Bowlby’s Business College of Appleton and worked at Wisconsin-Michigan Power Company at the Appleton office before she was married. Later, she started working in the Prange’s drapery work room part time in the 1960’s, working there for 23 years before retiring. Erma loved to walk, up to 5 or more miles a day. At age 60 years, she took up Cross Country Skiing and enjoyed it for about 12 years before giving it up. She enjoyed family time and loved playing cards, reading and singing in the Appleton Thompson Senior Center Choir. She was a long time member of the Appleton’s First Congregational United Church of Christ. After their children were grown, Erma and Quentin enjoyed many years of traveling the world and attending operas and symphonies and playing golf together.
Celebration of a long, well lived life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 11, 2017 at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton, with Rev. Dr. Stephen Savides officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Theda Care At Home Hospice.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Island Shore staff, Home Healthaide Care and ThedaCare At Home Hospice for their compassionate and professional care they gave to Erma.
Erma has taught us the grace of aging and how to find joy in each day. She will be missed.
