Dear Dad: I got to share the last eighteen hours of your life with you and spend them by your side. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever done, but I want you to know that they were the best eighteen hours a child could have asked for. What other time in my life has afforded me the opportunity to kiss you a thousand times in the passing of eighteen hours and tell you that I love you? What other time in our lives have we both stood still for eighteen hours so that I could touch you and hold you and revel in the warmth of your skin and the shape of your face? What other time in our lives could possibly cause me so much sorrow, yet leave me feeling full of your life? I am lost without you and I thank you, for in eighteen hours you have given me strength to go on.

Love, your daughter Denise.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the gang at Ho-Ho’s for filling Erle’s life with joy and laughter. Thanks also to the nurses and staff at the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee – thank you for treating him like he was your own.
