Age 83, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2004 after a short illness. Rene was born in Kimberly on September 4, 1920, son of the late Elmer and Margaret (Branchford) Behrendt and lived in Kimberly most of his life. On December 5, 1942, Erean married the former Irma Haas; she preceded him in death in 1974. During World War II, he served his country as a member of the United States Army, and was a former member of the William Verhagen Post #60 of the American Legion. For many years, he worked at Kimberly Clark (Kim-Tech) in Kimberly. Following the death of Irma, Rene married Marie Aeby on June 17, 1974; she preceded him in 1984. He also retired in 1984 and on December 12, 1985 married Betty Nielsen and moved to Fremont where he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Those who fished and hunted with Rene will miss his expertise. Betty preceded him in death in 1999.
He is survived by one son: Jean “Jeno” (Gloria) Behrendt of Freedom; two granddaughters: Consuelo “Connie” Behrendt of Appleton and Brenda (Craig) Honer of Freedom; a great-grandson: Christopher Honer of Freedom; two sisters: Yvette Pruetz of Shawano and Yvonne Wood of Pembine; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Paul (Nell) Haas of Greenleaf, Bernadette (Charles) Stadler of Neenah, Bruno (Carol) Haas of Appleton, Richard Haas of Neenah, and Loretta Frassetto of Appleton; numerous step-children: Barbara Bergemann of Freeport, Illinois, Peggy Laska of New Holstein, Richard Aeby of New Holstein, Albert Aeby of Appleton, Rae Ann (Jim) French of Colorado, and Karen (Chris) Ithomitis of Washington. Rene was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Irma, Marie, and Betty, a brother Jean Behrendt, sisters Yetive Williams and Margaret “Peggy” Michalkiewicz; brothers-in-law Clarence Michalkiewicz, John Wood, James “Chub” Williams, Herman Pruetz, Joe Haas, Elmer Haas, Herbert Haas, Roland Haas, and Philip Frassetto.
The funeral liturgy for Rene will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at HOLY NAME CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue in Kimberly with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 4 PM until the hour of the service.
