Carlson, Elsie E.
Elsie E. Carlson, age 87, of Appleton, died early Sunday morning, January 8, 2006, at Hospice at Cherry Meadows. To honor Elsie’s wish to remain at home, her immediate family cared for her in her home from June through last Wednesday evening with the support of ThedaCare at Home Hospice. Elsie was born to Gothard and Marie Arntzen on September 20, 1918, in Escanaba, Michigan. She was united in marriage to Roger D. Carlson in 1946 and shared 35 years with him before his death April 7, 1982. Roger and Elsie moved their family to Appleton from Escanaba in 1960. Family was central to Elsie for her entire life. She will be remembered for her inner strength based on a strong faith, her independent spirit, her wonderful sense of humor, her meticulous bookkeeping and knowledge of words, her welcome and good-bye hugs and kisses, her waves good-bye at the window and for showing us by example that what is most important in life is loving and helping one another. Elsie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by five children and four grandchildren, Janet Carlson (Dan Balliet), Appleton; John Carlson (Alma Galindo) and his daughter, Jennifer Carlson, (fiancé, Gabe McCulloch), all of Tucson, AZ; Arne (Barb) Carlson and their son Abe, Appleton; Dale Carlson, Appleton; Cathy Wagner, (fiancé, Roy Hegard), Hortonville, and her two children, Jason (Dawn) Wagner, Milwaukee and Sarah (Robbie) Robertson, North Little Rock, AR. She is further survived by two sisters, Helen (Dick) Daisley, Rio Rancho, NM; Louise Booth, Davison, MI; a brother, Kenneth (Colleen) Arntzen, Seattle, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Hannah Jelly, Blenda Peterson and Nora Thorsen and three brothers, Arne Arntzen, Edgar Arntzen and Walter Arntzen.
Funeral services for Elsie will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 13. 2006, at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 209 South Allen Street, with Reverends Kurt and Mary Beth Kovanen officiating. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 pm, Thursday and on Friday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
