Elmer R. Geiger, age 89, passed away on March 11, 2022. Elmer was born on November 2, 1932, to the late John and Lillian (Daelke) Geiger. He was a graduate of Appleton High School. After graduation he served his country honorably as a member of the US Navy. On May 18, 1957, he married the former Beverly Techlin at Bethany Lutheran Church in Appleton. He was employed with Riverside Paper in Appleton for 39 years. He also worked part-time with Vic Timm Homebuilding. He loved woodworking and referred to his shop as “Elmer’s Hobby Shop” or “Geiger’s Cabinets”. Crosses were his specialty. He was an active long-time member of St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Freedom. He was an active volunteer and donated much of his handiwork to the church over the years and it’s hard to walk around without seeing his woodworking skills on display. He also donated generously to Fox Valley Lutheran High School. In his younger years he enjoyed Stock Car Racing and he was an avid fisherman and deer hunter. He also loved doing word searches and playing cards.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of nearly 65 years and the love of his life, Beverly, children: Tim (Lynn Mehlberg) Geiger, Randy (Julie) Geiger, and Deb Gerhard, grandchildren: Christine (Brian) Plamann and Katie (Kyle) Zeamer, Lisa (Matthew) Dix, and Stuart Mehlberg, Laurie (Scott) Papesh, Jake (Danielle) Geiger and Steve (Stephanie) Geiger, Brandon (Randi) Vander Heiden and Shane (Elizabeth) Vander Heiden, 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law Lynn Geiger and one great grandchild Brooklynn Zeamer and 6 siblings.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022, at 11:30am at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, N2740 French Road in Freedom with Rev. Jim Fleming officiating. There will be a visitation on Friday at the church from 9:00am to 11:30am. Interment will be at Appleton Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton, especially Dr. Bellg, the ICU and 8th floor for the care given to Elmer.
