Elmer “Red” Hoffman, age 82, of Kimberly, passed away peacefully June 5, 2007 in New Berlin where he had resided for 4 years. Elmer was born in Mackville on Nov. 2, 1924, to the late Philip and Agnes (Griesbach) Hoffman. Elmer married Florence V. Phelan on Nov. 22, 1949 in Kimberly. She preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 2003. Elmer and Florence were lifelong members of Holy Name Parish in Kimberly and remained active in their community as well as docents at the EAA and volunteers for the Grand Opera House in Oshkosh. Many will remember Elmer as a great walker, who enjoyed the outdoors, nature and wild flowers at Sunset Park. In 1985, he retired with 31 years of service from Kimberly-Clark (Neenah Plant). Even in failing health, Elmer remained cheerful, uncomplaining and kept his sense of humor.
Elmer is survived by his two daughters Susan (Michael Meyers) Hoffman of New Berlin and Ann (Greg) Kaseno of Green Bay and two amazing and much loved grandchildren; Thomas Meyers and Kathryn Kaseno; brothers: Urban (Dorothy) Hoffman, Menasha; Kenneth (Rita) Hoffman, Appleton; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hoffman, Appleton; Alice (Wayne) LeFevre, Appleton; brothers-in-law, Robert (Jeannie) Phelan, Appleton; William (Kay) Phelan, Fargo, N.D.; John (Barbara) Phelan, Kaukauna and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by infant sisters: Hedwig and Roseanne; sisters: Marcella (13 yrs old), Rita B. Hoffman and Dorothy (Charlie) Weber; and brother John (Alice) Hoffman.
The funeral mass for Elmer will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH – KIMBERLY, (620 E. Kimberly Avenue), with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service.
