Passed away at home surrounded by his family on May 17, 2019 at the age of 92. Elmer was born on October 12, 1926 to George and Viola Walters in Antigo, WI. Elmer was a WWII veteran who served in Austria during the war as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. Elmer was also a member of the American Legion Post 38. After coming home from Europe, Elmer met and was joined in marriage to Rae Marie Manske on June 19, 1951.
Elmer was a machinist and proud union member of Tecumseh Products Company in New Holstein, and retired in 1993 after many years of service. In his retirement, Elmer enjoyed working on small engines in his garage. He helped many in his neighborhood keep their lawnmowers and snowblowers working. Elmer liked to hunt and fish up north, and also enjoyed gardening.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Rae Marie; children Theresa (Gerald) Clark, Barbara (Mike) Laib, Ed (Barb), and Keith (Joe) Walters-McShane; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Elmer is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Norman and Lawrence Walters.
The funeral liturgy will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church, 213 E. Wisconsin Ave, on Thursday May 23rd at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 AM until time of services. Interment and full military honors at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Elmer’s name. Elmer’s family would like to thank the staff at Aspire Senior Living for their compassionate care for him during his stay.
