Betty Van Wychen, age 94 of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully and joined her beloved husband Rich in heaven on December 2, 2021. Betty was born in Kaukauna on February 19, 1927, daughter of the late Albert and Susan (Schommer) DeBruin. She attended Holy Cross Grade School and was a graduate of Kaukauna High School. Betty married Rich Van Wychen and together they shared 72 wonderful years together. She was a great mom and homemaker, and she also kept the books for Rich’s business.
She did find time for several hobbies, including bowling, reading, knitting, fishing, and spending time at the cabin up north at Crivitz.
Betty is survived by six children: David (Mary) Van Wychen, Nancy (Tom) Durkee, Darlene (Greg) Hoffman, Lawrence (Bonnie) Van Wychen, Linda (Jeff) Olson, and Carol (Curt) Hoffman. There are 21 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law: Lillian Van Wychen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rich, a son Ray (Debra) Van Wychen, and her brothers and sisters: Mildred (Gerald) Smith, Alvin (Martha) DeBruin, Mae DeBruin, Raymond (Almira) DeBruin, Carl (Grayce) DeBruin, Clarence (Joan) DeBruin, Frederick (Gloria) DeBruin, Ruth (Nick) Geurts, Mary Alice (Ralph) Meulemans, and Mary Lou (Clifford) Weyers.
The funeral liturgy for Betty will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, St. Mary’s Church, located at 119 W. 7th Street, with Fr. Donald Everts officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who showered her with love, care, and compassion. They include the entire staff of Country Villa, Dr. Schoening, Michelle Walker from Right At Home, her hospice team Amber Uitenbroek and Ida Diedrich, as well as the rest of the hospice staff. We will never forget your kindness.
