BERGGREN, ELIZABETH EVANS
Betty died peacefully Saturday October 13, 2007 in Appleton. She was born in Chicago on December 13, 1919 to Camille and John H. Evans, M.D. Married to Russell E. Berggren on August 17, 1945, they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1995. She graduated from Wellesley College, majoring in Art History and English Literature. In 1946 Betty and Russ moved to Appleton and opened Berggren’s Sport Shop. She enthusiastically participated in the business with Russ and her brother-in-law, Roy Berggren. Later she worked as a real estate broker in Appleton. She was also a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church. Betty was an active member of many clubs and organizations including Fine Arts Club, Wednesday Review, Friends of the Appleton Library and Appleton Delphian Club. She was an associate member of The Benefit Circle, King’s Daughters. Through her relationships with these clubs, and the many friends she made, Appleton became her home for over 60 years.
Betty will be remembered by her family and many friends for her warmth, quick wit and artistic talent. She was an avid reader and gardener. Lending her artistic skills and her love of baking, she helped produce several cookbooks for King’s Daughters.
Betty is survived by three sons and a daughter and their families: Russ and Jean, their children: daughter Jane and son Scott and his wife Kim; Paul and Judy, their daughter Jessica Meitner, her husband Shane and their son Gavin; John and Mickie, their children: Andrew, Sarah and Brian, his wife Amie and their daughter Madisyn,; Camille and Michael Wehner, their children Elliot and Margaret. In addition to her parents and two brothers, Betty was preceded in death by her husband Russ and her granddaughter Jill Rae.
Funeral services for Betty will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Wichmann Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Valenti-Hein officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. Friday until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
The family is thankful for the care and kindness of the staff and residents of The Renaissance-Appleton.
