Age 93, passed away in her home peacefully in her favorite chair early Monday evening, October 17, 2005. She was born in the Town of Harrison on May 14, 1912, daughter of the late Henry and Emma (Engel) Maas. On November 19, 1938, she married Alex Hoelzel in the St. Joseph rectory in Appleton. Eleonora and Alex operated their family dairy farm for over 45 years. She was an active member of First English Lutheran Church for 70 years. Eleonora was an inspiration with her positive outlook on life.
Eleonora is survived by her children: Thomas (Penny) Hoelzel of Kimberly, Dennis Hoelzel of Appleton; grandchildren: Scott (Nancy) Hoelzel of Bay St. Louis, MS; Heather (Christopher) Ristow of Oshkosh, Erika (Michael) Pond of Memphis, TN; great-grandchildren: Gabriel Ristow, and Emma and Alex Hoelzel; sisters: Esther Tuyls of Green Bay, Arlene Schmidt of Appleton, and Virginia Lemke of Appleton; and brother, Henry Maas of Green Bay. Eleonora is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Alex; and her infant sister, Evelyn.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2005, at FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 326 E. North St., Appleton, with Rev. Vicki Fink officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in Holy Angels Cemetery, Darboy.
The family extends a special thanks to Frankie, Gary, Kris, and Kathy and to all of Eleonora’s lifelong neighbors and good friends.
A memorial fund in Eleonora’s name is being established.
