Eleanore Catherine Burke, 93 years, passed away February 23, 2018 at Brewster Village in Appleton, Wisconsin. She was born September 13, 1924 to her parents Joseph and Laura Van Dyke (Liesch) in Little Chute, Wisconsin. Eleanore was a graduate of Appleton West High School Class of 1943. She retired from Wisconsin Telephone Company in 1982 after 25 years of service where she worked as an Administrative Clerk.
On May 1, 1950 Eleanore C. Van Dyke married the love of her life Thomas J. Burke at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton, Wisconsin where they raised three children. Eleanore enjoyed volunteering at church in many ways. She especially enjoyed assisting families at the St. Joseph Food Pantry and singing in the St. Therese Choir.
Eleanore will be missed by her children David (Diana Coffey) Burke, Margaret “Greta” (Victor) Wenzel, and Kristine (Kenneth) Havel, Grandson Tony (Erin) Wenzel, great-grandsons Liam and Jackson Wenzel, siblings Joan (Ralph) Gast and Peter (Donna) Van Dyke, and sister-in-law Carol Van Dyke. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Laura, husband Thomas, infant daughter Anne Marie, and brothers, John (Myra) Van Dyke, Gerald (Marion) Van Dyke, Thomas Van Dyke, Howard (Fran) Van Dyke, and Robert Van Dyke.
A Resurrection Mass for Eleanore will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 410 W. Lawrence St., Appleton. Private interment at St. Mary Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:30 am until time of Mass.
Memorials in Eleanore’s name may be made to the St. Joseph Food Pantry or your own local food pantry.
