Eleanor L. Scanlon, age 75, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at her home after a year-long battle with cancer.
She was born January 14, 1930, in Appleton, the daughter of the late Claire L. and Sadie (Hanes) Woodard. Eleanor grew up in Appleton and was a high school graduate of the Bethel Academy in Arpin, Wisconsin. She attended Andrews University in Michigan to study music. Eleanor and William “Bill” Scanlon were united in marriage on March 6, 1951, in Appleton.
For many years Eleanor was a piano teacher in Appleton. She was the organist for over 30 years with St. James Methodist Church, and also was the organist for their own church, Fox Valley Seventh Day Adventist Church in Neenah. The Scanlons enjoyed wintering in Florida the past 13 years.
Eleanor was a woman of great faith in God and gave witness to her belief. She was very giving, thoughtful, and put other people before herself. She loved her family, and she will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; a daughter, Connie (John) Gales, of Green Bay; a son, Tom (Rayellen) Scanlon, of Madison; and her three grandchildren, Paul DesJardins, Rachel Campbell, and Alexandra Scanlon.
Memorial services for Eleanor will be at 5:00 P.M. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at FOX VALLEY SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH, 265 South Green Bay Road, Neenah. Pastor Robert Knutson will preside. The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. Saturday until the time of services directly at the church. A memorial is being established.
The family would like to thank Mary O’Brien and the entire ThedaCare Hospice staff for their care given to Eleanor during her illness.
