Age 82, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Cherry Meadows with her family at her side. Elda was born on March 30, 1925 in Appleton to the late Edward and Agnes (Diener) Merkel. She was a 1943 graduate of Appleton High School. On September 28, 1946 she was united in marriage to Charles Muench at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and they recently celebrated 60 wonderful years together. After Elda raised her family she was a dedicated part-time employee for Sears from1974 until 1987. Elda and Charlie enjoyed quarterly pot-lucks with the D-40 club. In addition to spending time with her family, Elda enjoyed knitting, baking, gardening, watching the Packers, and traveling with her family.

She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Charles; her children: Linda (Bill) Watson, Hortonville, Shirley (RJ) Miracle, Papillion, NE, Dick Muench, Larsen, Diane Muench, Greenville, Mary (Jack) Effertz, Darboy, Dan (Jill) Muench, Appleton; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; step-brothers: Harley (Audrey) Tierney, Appleton, Jim (Anne) Tierney, Wisconsin Rapids; sister-in-law, Betty Buchholtz, Waupaca, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her step-father, Clifford Tierney, sister Elaine Meyer, brother Glen Merkel, and son-in-law Tom Oatman, sister-in-law Olive Graper.

Funeral services for Elda will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (222 East Fremont Street) with Father Tom Farrell
officiating. Friends may call at the church in the Sacred Heart room from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the mass. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Elda’s name. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staffs at the Martha Siekman Cancer Center, ThedaCare at Home Hospice, and Cherry Meadows for the loving care given to Elda.
