Elaine ''Sis'' Janssen

Age 93, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at the Appleton Medical Center. She was born in Kaukauna on October 7, 1909, daughter of the late John and Mary (Fell) Conlon. Sis was a 1925 graduate of St. Mary School, and in 1929 graduated from the Kaukauna High School. Prior to her marriage she was employed by the Kaukauna Vocational School and on July 20, 1936 she married Martin F. Janssen; he preceded her in death on May 15, 1989. Along with her brother, Jack, she and Martin operated The Royal, a men’s clothing store in Kaukauna. Sis was a member and past president of the Fox Valley Lady Golfers, past treasurer of the Kaukauna Elks’ Club Ladies, past secretary of the Kaukauna Homemakers, and the Kaukauna High School Alumni Association. Elaine also served on many committees in the area. Elaine enjoyed playing golf and cards, was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her.

She is survived by a son: Jerry (Betz) Janssen of Madison; two grandchildren: Sherry (Don) Severson of Madison and Patrick (Colleen) Janssen of McFarland; five great-grandchildren: Matthew, Erik, and Collin Severson of Madison and Sarah and John Janssen of McFarland; a sister: Kathleen Van Lieshout of Appleton; a sister-in-law; Helen Conlon of Waterford, Michigan; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters Alice Conlon, Ruth Conlon, Dolores (Joe) Stazewski; brothers: Jack (Theresa) Conlon, Jerry Conlon, Richard Conlon, and Gene Conlon.

The funeral liturgy for Sis will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, May 1, 2003 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service.

The family would like to extend their gratitude Sis’ many neighbors and friends whose frequent visits permitted her to stay in her own home. Her independence was so important to her – thank you all so very much.
