Elaine June (Erickson) Goudzwaard, 92, Appleton, passed away peacefully on March 24th at home with her sons Jeff (Appleton) and Mark (Marlborough, MA) by her side.
Elaine was born June 15, 1924 to Iver and Maude (Covell) Erickson in North Muskegon, Michigan. She shared the youngest spot of 11 children with her identical twin sister, Lorraine.
While attending North Muskegon High School, Elaine was active in theater. It was there that she met her husband of 68 years, Jack Goudzwaard. After high school Elaine worked in Accounts Payable for Sealed Power and was selected as a model for the company's Victory Garden calendar. Upon Jack's graduation from Michigan Tech, Elaine and Jack were wed June 28, 1947 in North Muskegon, Michigan
Elaine's life revolved around being a wife, mother, friend and active volunteer at church and in the community. St. Elizabeth Hospital recognized her 35 years of service in the gift shop. She and Jack volunteered frequently delivering Meals on Wheels and traveling across Central Wisconsin to transport blood. As a long-time member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Elaine worked in the kitchen, was key to the interior design and furnishing of the church's fellowship hall and active in Appleton's Church Women United.
Elaine will be sadly missed by her children, Jeff (Amy) Goudzwaard and their boys Jake, Joseph and Aaron, Mark (Amy) Goudzwaard and their children Alyson Goudzwaard and Lauren Nichols, siblings, Maurine Rae, (99), Lucille Katzenberger (97), Lorraine, “Sis” Brearley (92), as well as many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, their daughter Terry Lynn and her siblings Donald, Kenneth, Norval, Evelyn, Olive, Dorothy, and Geraldine.
A Memorial Service for Elaine will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 5:00 pm at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 740 E. College Avenue in Appleton with Rev. Ben Morris officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Church. Private inurnment Laketon Cemetery, North Muskegon, MI.
The family of Elaine thanks the staff of The Heritage Assisted Living Homes for their loving care of her.
