Age 86, passed away at Cherry Meadows in Appleton on Sunday, May 20, 2007. He was born in Milwaukee on August 21, 1920, the son of the late Roman and Johanna (Manikowski) Kleba. Ed enlisted in the United States Army during World War II serving in England, North Africa and Italy. He earned the rank of master sergeant. On June 1, 1946, he married Ruth Laganowski. Ed was employed at Allis-Chalmers for 39 years, retiring in 1985. He loved sports and coached youth basketball and baseball. Ed enjoyed maintaining his yard and home, feeding birds, and gardening.

Ed is survived by his wife, Ruth; children: Ellen (James) Cihak of Appleton, Bob (Patricia) Kleba of Crivitz, Dave (Starr) Kleba of Racine, Elizabeth Kleba of Green Bay and Catherine (Michael) Eschmann of Lee’s Summit, MO; grandchildren: Adam Kleba, Rebecca Kleba, Joanna (Mark) Malliet, Sarah Kleba, Nathan Kleba, Jeff Cihak, Alex Eschmann and Eric Eschmann; great-grandchildren: Josef Kleba and Courtney Malliet; brother, Daniel Kleba; sisters: Virginia (David) Harmon and Susan Thomson. He is further survived by many relatives and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Kleba.

According to Ed’s wishes, a private military honor service will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove. Ed was a long time member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church where a memorial mass will be held at a later date.

The family expresses their gratitude to the staff at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton who took excellent care of Ed. A special thank you to Fr. Gerald Falk for his prayers and compassion.
