Thomas Edward Nowell, age 92, died March 19, 2006 while residing at Emerald Valley in Appleton. Born June 2, 1913 in Crosby, MN. His family moved to Ironwood MI when Ed was 5 yr. old, graduating from Luther L. Wright High School in 1931. Ed was active in all phases of music throughout his high school years including playing the trumpet, violin, large pipe organ and trombone. Married Alice Frances Farney in June 1933 in Bessemer, MI. Together they lived in Ironwood, Kalamazoo and Ishpeming, MI finally settling in Appleton in 1952. Ed’s early career centered on music until the 1960s. While raising his family in Appleton, Ed worked for Gibson Chevrolet, Associated Factories (Appleton Chair Corp.) and finally with the J.C. Penny Corp until his retirement in 1976.<br>Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ida Nowell, sisters Alice (Russ) Pankratz, Gladys (Norm) Tews, son Peter Mott, daughter Rosemary Alice (Mischler) and wives Alice Frances (Farney) to whom he was married for 52 years, and Esther Powers Nowell.<br>Ed is survived by his son James (Nancy), Minneapolis, MN, daughter Kathryn Bessin, Miami, FL, daughter Anna (Bill) Sherry, West Bend, WI and daughter in law Ellie Nowell Andrews, Wells, Maine. Further survived by 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a niece and nephews.<br>Ed was an avid fly fisherman and golfer while always maintaining his life long love and enjoyment of jazz.<br>Ed was eternally grateful for the friendship of his dear friends Frankie Genesat, son-in-law Bill Sherry, Ken Hilleman, Deb Burrows and Janet Planet.<br>A special thank you to Mary Fran for her never ending care and concern and to the staff at Emerald Valley.<br>Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday March 24, 2006 at the funeral home with Pastor James Schmitz presiding.
