Age 75, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2007 at Appleton Medical Center after a brief and courageous battle with cancer and complications of surgery.
He was born August 16, 1931, in Kaukauna, the son of Dorothy (Hahnemann) Champeau, of Kaukauna, and the late Gordon Champeau. Ed was a graduate of Kaukauna High School and attended Fox Valley Technical College in their drafting program. He was then called to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Ed was united in marriage to Barbara J. Staedt on March 12, 1955 in Appleton. He was a salesman with the Hayes Manufacturing Company of Neenah for many years, and retired in 1987. He was actively working in different part-time positions until October of last year. Ed was a kind, loving, and compassionate man who liked quiet times at his home, the nature in his backyard, watching sunsets, but especially loved time spent with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his mother, Dorothy, of Kaukauna; his wife; Barbara Champeau; his son, Chris (Nancy) Champeau, Appleton; his daughter, Carrie Champeau (her special friend Bob), Appleton; his grandchildren, Nathan (Crystal), Sarah, Christa, Mandi (her special friend Shawn), and Josh; his great-grandchildren Naomi, Leland, and Abigail. He is further survived by two sisters, Shirley (Doug) George of Appleton, and Georgianna (Walter) Erskine of Florida; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom (Diana) Staedt, Appleton, Cheryl (Jerry) Storzer, Reedsville, Patty (Steve) Dyreson, New London, Paula Staedt, Appleton, and Terry (Janice) Staedt, Appleton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon.
Funeral Services for Ed will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at WICHMANN TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, 3212 S. Oneida St, Menasha, with Rev. Dennis Nelson officiating. Burial and military honors will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home. A memorial fund in Edward’s name is being established.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Doctor Tait Fors, he will always be remembered and appreciated for his skill and compassion in caring for Ed and his family.
