Edward Clarence "Ed" Schmidt

Edward C. Schmidt passed away with his children by his side on November 29, 2021, at the age of 78, at Appleton Medical Center. He had spent the last few years at Eagle Point Senior Living Community in Appleton, WI. He was born on November 8, 1943 in Beaver Dam, WI to Clarence W. and Hilda M. Schmidt.
Ed grew up on a farm near Fox Lake, WI and graduated from Fox Lake High School. He graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management.
Ed worked in management for John Deere, Mercury Marine and Maytag Corporation, where he executed implementation of new procurement initiatives. He managed the implementation of the Fox Valley Region Extension of MSOE and fostered its growth in Appleton, WI. He also did procurement consulting work with Global Resources Professionals and Patina Solutions in the healthcare, manufacturing, and insurance industries.
Ed was a lifelong Lutheran. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Appleton, WI since 1991. He was involved in Bible studies both as a participant and a leader. He also served as an usher and was one of the moderators of the radio broadcast.
Ed enjoyed yard maintenance, shooting pool, watching wildlife in his back yard and driving his BMW Z3 roadster around Northeastern Wisconsin.
At age 74, Ed suffered a spinal cord injury that left him a partial quadriplegic. As a result, he was wheelchair-bound until his death.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Hilda Schmidt; and his sister, Joan Miller.
He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen; a son, Paul; three grandchildren, Aaron Stippich, Taylor Zuhse (Schmidt), and Megan Stippich; and a great-grandson, Noah Zuhse.
A service for Ed will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, December 11, at Faith Lutheran Church, 601 E. Glendale Ave, Appleton. A visitation will be held prior from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Internment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Appleton.
In lieu of flowers, it is Ed’s wish that memorials be given to Faith Lutheran Church.
Ed would like to thank all the staff at Eagle Point Senior Living Community and Appleton Medical Center for all the wonderful care they gave.
