Earl A. Buchman

March 25, 1918 — July 2, 2008

Earl A. Buchman, age 90, of Black Creek, passed away Wednesday morning, July 2, 2008. He was born March 25, 1918 to the late Earl A. and Anna (Steidle) Buchman, Sr. in Hortonville and was an area resident all of his life. Earl served his county during WW II, with the U. S. Army, 136th Infantry, 33rd Division and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Service Medal, with two Bronze Clusters, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, with one Bronze Cluster, four Overseas Service Bars, Distinguished Unit Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, Expert Infantryman Badge and the Combat Infantry Badge. Earl took over his father's business, Hortonville Ice and Fuel, he was the only ice maker and supplied Hortonville and surrounding areas with ice and coal. He later started Appleton Construction, where he installed sidewalks, curb and gutter, and new roads in Appleton, Little Chute and Brillion. Earl built and ran the toboggan slide called Dyn's and also built the pool at Dyn's Country Club. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Seymour, and the Oney Johnston-Edward Blessman American Legion Post #38 of Appleton. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vermilia V. (Doxtater) Kelly Buchman; nine children, Robert, Becky, Jim, Jane, Patricia, Earl III, Mark, Christine, Christopher; four step-children, Sharon, Ronald, Nancy and Stephen; 31 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; a sister, JoAnne (Ed) Schwartz, Hortonville; and a brother-in-law, Jack Lamers, Shiocton. Funeral services for Earl will be held at 4:00 pm, Monday, July 7, 2008, at the funeral home with Father Bob Kabat, of St. John Catholic Church, Seymour, officiating. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 pm, Monday, until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
