It is with great sadness that the family of Elden Dean Rohm announces the passing at the age of 80 on Thursday, September 13, 2018 after a long, well-fought illness.
Dean was born November 1, 1937, to Doris and Grant Rohm. He graduated in 1956 from Appleton High and served in the Army at Fort Dix in New Jersey. Upon his return, Dean married Elizabeth “(Betty” Rohm and had two daughters Britt (Rohm) Piehl and Dana (Rohm) Heenan. Dean and Betty were married for 40 years at the time of Betty’s death in 2004. Thereafter, Dean reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Darlene Haase, whom he married in 2006.
Dean worked for WE Energies as a lineman for 40 years. He was the president of IBEW 2150 for many years and took great pride in the work he did on the line and on behalf of the union. Dean loved to golf and travel with Darlene and her children. Before the decline in his health, Dean was a talented fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed every moment with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was blessed to have had special time with Dusty, Darlene’s grandson, when Dusty lived with them. He truly enjoyed time spent with Dusty.
Dean is survived by his wife Darlene; his daughters: Britt (Jeff) Piehl and Dana (Doug) Heenan; step-children: Suzy (Dan) Loveland, David (Katy) Metelko, and Michael (Beckie) Metelko; four “Darling” granddaughters: Rachael, Rebecca, Alaina, and Olivia Heenan, and his special “Buddy” and grandson PFC Stephen Heenan, who is a Marine air crew school member; six great-grandchildren, and many step-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters: Carmen (Jerry) Bolwerk and Lori (Jim) Krueger, and abrother Dale (Mary) Rohm.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents Doris and Grant Rohm, and a sister Verda Maynard.
There will be a celebration of Dean’s life Friday, September 21, 2018 at Wichmann Funeral Home, located at 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton at 11:00 AM, with Msgr. John Schuh officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
