DYANN R. ABEL
McFarland--Dyann "Dede" Abel was born November 17, 1950 to Norbert and Ruth (Hogan) Roeland in Superior, Wisconsin. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, was called to heaven surrounded by her family on Friday October 27, 2023.
A nearly lifelong resident of Menasha/Fox Crossing, she graduated from Menasha High School with the class of 1969 and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh class of 1973. She met her soulmate Bob in high school and they were married on May 27, 1972.
Dede loved being a stay at home mom while working side-by-side with Bob in the family business for over 20 years. She loved watching her kid's activities volunteering her time running the concession stand at Youth Sports while Bob coached baseball. A lover of Wisconsin sports, she enjoyed watching both amateur and professional teams, Saturday date nights with Bob, and didn't miss an episode of Jeopardy. Her three grandchildren were the light of her life and she adored their time together spent playing games and Legos. She enjoyed sewing and baking and made the world's best chocolate chip cookies.
Dede will be sadly missed by her loving husband Bob, children Betsey; David (Deb) their children Braxton, Finley, and Westin; Tommy; and Jessica. She will also be missed by her brother Mickey (Barb) Roeland as well as her nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Virgil and Ann Abel, and her sister and brother-in-law Debra and Michael Sadowski.
There will be a memorial mass for Dyann on Thursday November 9, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church 516 DePere Street in Menasha. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00-11:00am on Thursday prior to mass. Interment will be at St Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Menasha.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the University of Wisconsin Madison Hospital doctors and nurses, especially nurse Jamie, who were truly outstanding with their care and compassion. To Agrace Hospice for getting Dede home safely and comfortably, and to her nieces Jennifer and Sara for their extra special care at home.
In lieu of floral expressions, a memorial fund will be established in her name dedicated to advancing Pancreatic Cancer research. Online condolences may be sent to Dyann's family through Wichmann Funeral Home at www.wichmannfuneralhomes.com
