DR. JOHN W. MEYER

Age 88, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. John was born on November 12, 1913, in Milwaukee to John V. and Mathilda (Thiel) Meyer. He served in the CCC Blue Lake Camp in Minocqua, Wisconsin. John married Irene C. Schneider on September 24, 1938, in Appleton. He graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago in 1942. He was an optometrist for 36 years in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. John was a charter member of the Manitowoc Barbershop Chorus for 33 years and directed the chorus for ten years. He also sang in the First Presbyterian Church choir for 35 years and served as director for several years. John was a former member of the Manitowoc Rotarian Club. Throughout his entire life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and bowling. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Irene; his children, John (Susan) Meyer, Oshkosh; Marilyn (Dean) Lausche, Wausau; Kathy (Tom) Peterson, Janesville; Daniel (Kris) Meyer, Appleton; and Tom (Tracy) Meyer, Appleton; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; his sister, Marion Meyer, Appleton; his brother Dr. Robert (Carol) Meyer, Ripon; his sister-in-law, Florence Meyer, Fond du Lac; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday) August 1, 2002, at EMMANUEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 740 East College Avenue, Appleton, with Rev. David Kalas officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of services. A memorial has been established in his name. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Wendy and Darrell Richards of Laona for their loving care.
