Dottie Ann Meyer (Bork), age 75 of Appleton, WI took her final flight home on March 21, 2023, to be reunited with the love of her life, Dennis Meyer; her parents, Velma (Smith) and Herbert Bork; and her brother, Richard Bork. She was born in Oshkosh, WI on February 7, 1948. Dottie graduated from Lourdes Academy in Oshkosh with the class of ‘66 and went on to earn her associate degree from a trade school in Minnesota shortly thereafter. She worked a variety of jobs over the years but took pride in being a Customer Service Representative for Air Wisconsin Airlines. While working there, Dottie met an intelligent, incredible pilot, Dennis Meyer. It was love at first sight and they married in April of 1976, having two children shortly after, who became the lights of her life.
Dottie was the most wonderful person to everyone she met. She spent a lot of time gardening beautiful, exquisite flowers in her yard, including Hibiscuses, her favorite flowers from Hawaii. She was a phenomenal cook and enjoyed a good brandy old-fashioned sweet with extra olives. Often, when her family was working late, Dottie would bring them a hot meal and warm hug as a care package. Dottie was also an accomplished artist, dedicating her talents to arts and crafts, particularly drawing and painting. She was an advocate for human rights, always fighting for the freedoms of her friends and neighbors. Family was first in Dottie’s life, including her beloved dogs. Dottie was a spiritual person, who felt connected with God and Mother Nature, and enjoyed long conversations about spiritual practices and beliefs with her granddaughter, Alivia. She was also a lover of sports, building a March Madness bracket every year and always cheering on the Denver Broncos whenever they were playing - Go Broncos! More than anything else in the world, though, she loved and cherished her family. She is so proud of her kids, her grandkids, and the legacy she left behind in everyone’s hearts.
Dottie will be dearly missed by her children; Lorian Meyer and Chris (Gráinne) Meyer; her grandchildren, Alivia “Liv” Meyer, Conor Meyer, Cían Meyer, and Colin Meyer; her dearest friend, Nancy Sturm; as well as many other extended relatives and dear friends. Dottie’s entire family’s line of special gifts were passed down individually to her four grandchildren. She spent time with each of them doing activities that resonated with their soul’s purpose—they will all carry on her light into their future endeavors.
A memorial visitation will be held for Dottie from 1-3 PM, Wednesday March 29, at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St, Appleton, WI with a celebration of life service to follow at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Heart Association in honor of Dottie.
Dottie’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the cardiologists and medical staff in the ICU of ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Appleton, for the compassion they showed to Dottie while in their care. Additional gratitude goes out to Lorian’s dear friend, JoLynn, who went above and beyond during the upheaval of the Meyer family.
Even on your darkest days, the sun still shines. – Alivia Jae Meyer, granddaughter
