Dorothy I. Schomisch, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 9, 1927, in Menasha, the daughter of Michael and Martha (Rumnek) Smolinski. Dorothy was united in marriage to Mathew Prestil on October 25, 1947, and he preceded her in death on July 8, 1977. She then married Gerald Schomisch on August 13, 1983, and he preceded her in death on August 21, 1985. Dorothy loved the Packers and Brewers, but her number one love was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was employed with Clovis Grove School as a custodian for 15 years and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish. Dorothy liked to garden, play cribbage, poker, sheepshead, do jig saw puzzles and word search puzzles.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Mary (Tom) Plank and Robert Prestil; 6 grandchildren: Jessica (Jared) Justinger, Aaron Prestil, Adam (Cheyenne) Prestil, Allison (fiancé Ethan Matz) Plank, Emily (special friend Mike Wynn) Plank, and Chas (Kacie) Prestil; 4 great grandchildren: Seth, Aubrie, Calvin, and baby girl Prestil on the way; a sister: Martha “Sis” (Howard) Rohde; a brother- and sister-in-law: Tom Bohmke and Betty Lou Smolinski; many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was further preceded in death by a son: Michael Prestil; and 7 siblings: Rose Bohmke, George “Bibbs” (Audrey) Smolinski, Michael (Joan) Smolinski, Frank (Betty) Smolinski, Alvina (Delbert) Ernst, Eugene Smolinski, and Genevieve “Jenny” (Howard) Mielke.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am, on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 516 De Pere St., Menasha, with Fr. Paul Paider officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Menasha. Visitation will be Tuesday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
