Age 56, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2001, at Appleton Medical Center following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Dottie was born on June 21, 1944, in Milwaukee, the daughter of the late Elmer William and Eleanor Margaret (Federman) Krueger. On July 23, 1993, she married Steve Anderson in Appleton. Dottie grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Rufus King High School in 1962. After attending the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for four years, she received her Bachelor of Education in 1966. Dottie began her teaching career in Waukesha for three years then took some time off to start a family. Dottie resumed her career when she relocated in the Appleton area as a substitute teacher for the Appleton School District. In 1986, she became a full time teacher for Horizons Elementary School, where she was very involved with the Peer Mediator’s and the Safety Patrol Program. In addition, she participated with the Appleton Junior Women’s Club and the Fox Valley Youth Hockey Association. She was also a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Although Dottie was very active, many will remember her for her Chocolate Chip Cookies. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Steve; her three children, Scott (Angela) Ahlman of Dearborn, MI; Melissa (Kris) Burkhardt of Tokyo, Japan; Michael Ahlman of Breckenridge, CO; two step-sons, Ross and Luke Anderson both of Appleton; a brother, Tom (Jo) Krueger of Winona, MN; her aunt, Dorothy Dellert of Montello,WI; a niece, Jenny (Craig) Crismon of Watertown, SD; a nephew, Andy Krueger of Kenosha, WI; her aunt, Wilma Krueger of Poynette, WI and cousins, Dr. Dean Krueger of Pardeeville, WI and Gloria Tucker of Montello, WI. Dottie is further survived by special friends, Susie and Roy Miller of Conifer, CO; Donna Frick, Mary Benotch and Cookie Wenning, all of Appleton; Ken and Carol Ligare of Hortonville and Dennis and Sherry Ahlman of Appleton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2001, at OUR SAVIOUR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3009 N. Meade Street, Appleton, the Rev. Dennis E. Ellisen officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Students and friends will be received on Friday, January 19, 2001, at Horizons Elementary School, 2101 Schaefer Circle, from 6-8 p.m. and again on Saturday, directly at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Teachers and students alike, inspired Dottie to great efforts. To continue those efforts, in lieu of flowers, a Dottie Anderson Memorial Fund has been established to further the educational experience of children in the community.
