Age 90, passed away on Friday evening, August 1, 2008 at Colony Oaks Care Center following a brief illness. She was born on June 2, 1918 in Appleton to the late Carl and Mary (Young) Ulmen. On August 24, 1940 she married Lawrence C. “Lefty” Kugler at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton, and celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage shortly before he preceded her in death on September 19, 1997. Dorothy was employed as a salesperson for Pranges in Appleton for 20 years before retiring in June of 1983. Dorothy was a founding member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church. She was loved by everyone who knew her.

She will be sadly missed by her children: Lawrence Carl Kugler, Eileen (Joe) Schmitzer, James (Fiancee Georgia Sierra) Kugler, Diane Kugler; grandchildren: Lisa (Doug) Wilke, Daniel (JoAnn) Schmitzer; great grandchildren: Hailey Wilke and Khyleigh Schmitzer; sisters: Lucille Endter and Alice Smith; sisters-in-law: Cora Ulmen and Grace Kugler; and a special friend, Mary Lynn Kugler; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her loving husband, Lawrence, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Floyd Ulmen and Carlton Ulmen; her sister, Evelyn Westgor; and sister-in-law, Ann Kugler.

Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church (2331 E. Lourdes Avenue) with Father Don Zuleger officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of Mass. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
