DORIS L. “PEG” RASMUSSEN
Appleton
Age 93, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at Rennes Health Care Center. Doris was born December 1, 1907 to the late George and Ella (Stanley) Durkee in Hillsboro, WI. She graduated from Tomahawk High School and married the late Paul Rasmussen on May 26; 1928, he preceded her in death in 1977. Doris worked in the infirmary at Lawrence University and as a cashier for J.C. Penny. They founded Crescent Electric Motor Service and maintained the business until their retirement. In retirement they spent winters in Florida and summers at Roberts Lake. After Paul’s death, Doris remained in Florida until she returned to Appleton in 1994. Doris enjoyed volunteering, hobbies, bingo and playing cards. In spite of her many health problems, she lived a full life and will be remembered by many.
Peg is survived by her son, Richard P. (Shirley) Rasmussen of Appleton; her daughter, Judith K. (Richard) Moore of Vulcan, MI; her seven grandchildren, Gary “Fritz” (Nancy) Rasmussen of LaCrescent, MN, Jim “Fritz” (Brenda) Rasmussen of Appleton, David (Laura) Rasmussen of Little Chute, Deb (Mark) Toll of Appleton, Brian (Jill) Rasmussen of Appleton, Troy (Rhonda) Schuh of Vulcan, MI and Crystal Schuh of Vulcan, MI. She will also be greatly missed by thirteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, a special nephew, John Champeau of Texas, two sisters, Margie Kieffer of Appleton and Joyce Champeau of Texas, a special friend Sarah and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her parents, two brothers, Bernard (Lillabella) Durkee and George (Mildred) Durkee Jr. and her sister, Leona (Bernard) Cornelius.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2001 at ST. MATTHEW EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 129 South Mason Street with Rev. David F. Pagel and Vicar Joseph Christina co-officiating. Viewing and visitation will be Saturday at CHURCH from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
A memorial has been established in Peg’s name to benefit Fox Valley Lutheran High
School.
