Age 82, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2001 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Doris was born Feb. 5, 1919 in Stevens Point, WI the daughter of Alma (nee Reinhart) and Wesley Babcock. She had one sister Elaine (Boehm). Doris Frances Babcock was joined in marriage to Harold Brooks, on August 27, 1937 at St. Joseph’s church in Appleton. Doris graduated from Appleton High School. She was formally employed as a nurse’s aid at St. Elizabeth Hospital, working in the children’s ward. She continued her love for children by becoming a foster parent for newborns for many years. Doris also enjoyed reading and crocheting.
How do you compress 82 years of life in a few sentences? How do you pay final tribute to the woman who gave birth to your children? How do you say good-bye to the woman who selflessly gave you endless hours of devoted love and care? How do you say thank you for 64 years of being a faithful wife? How can you possibly let her know how much your really loved her and maybe didn’t tell her often enough? Sadly today upon your death we say good-bye to you mother, wife, and companion for all you did for us…we will always remember your love.
The following is a small, but the most important part of Doris’s life her family: She is survived by her husband, Harold and their children: Judith (Larry) Sievert, David P. (Mary) Brooks, Danny T. (Shirley) Brooks, Lynn (Mike) Stearns and a deceased son Bruce. Her grandchildren: Scott (Celina) Brooks, Brian Brooks and fiancée Ann Griesbach, Shannon, Carrie and Kelly Brooks, Stacy and Kristy Sievert, Sara and Jonathan Stearns, Lisa and Kent Pentzer, Parker Brooks, great-grandchild Carma Brooks and nieces Nancy and Sandy Boehm. She will also be greatly missed by her devoted pet, Clancey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and John Boehm and son, Bruce Brooks.
You were a spunky little woman who knew what she liked (4’10” of spit and vinegar).
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, October 27, 2001 at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Chaplain Kathryn Vandervelden officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service (4:30 p.m.).
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
Gather the stars if you wish it so
Gather the songs and keep them
Gather the faces of women
Gather for keeping years and years
And then…
Loosen your hands, let go and say good-bye
Let the stars and songs go
Let the faces and years go
Loosen your hands and say good-bye
