Age 85, died Thursday, October 30, 2003, at Oakridge Gardens, Menasha. Doris was born April 6, 1918, in Milwaukee, to the late George and Mollie (Anderson) Hess. She married Earl R. Miller on September 8, 1936, in Milwaukee; he preceded her in death on February 18, 1978. Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was employed at Lawrence University for many years, retiring in 1985. Survivors include her daughters, Judy Merritt, Appleton, and Kathy (Bud) Collar, Appleton; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Miller, Appleton: her grandchildren, Barbara (Paul) Ristau, Chris Collar, Mollie Collar, Rick (Wendy) Miller, Julie (Milton) Kemp, Steve (Marcia) Miller, Kay (David) LaBarge and Joe Miller; her ten great grandchildren; and her great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard; her brother, George; and her sisters-in-law and life-long friends, Pearl, Ruby and Dorothy. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2003, at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 325 East Franklin Street, Appleton with Rev. Jane Voigts officiating. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton, on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and directly at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Middle Inlet, Wis. A memorial has been established in Doris’ name to benefit First United Methodist Church, Appleton.
