Dori Marie Hoffmann, age 75, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve at the Bridges of Appleton. Dori was born on February 21, 1942, in Michigan, daughter of the Late Merritt and Bertha Oatman. After graduating from Menomonee High School, she went on to earn her teaching degree at UW-Oshkosh. Dori taught at St. Therese, St. Thomas More, as well as in Heartland. Dori shared a 26 year marriage with husband Richard Hoffman.
During her life, Dori shared a special bond with many children. She enjoyed her years teaching elementary school and as a librarian. After her retirement, she tutored children in the home.
She is survived by her husband: Richard Hoffmann; her son: Ryan (Jie) McCarthy; brother: Jim Oatman; and her step son: Gary Hoffmann. She is further survived by her grandson Eugene McCarthy and her step grandchildren Kelsey and Tyler Hoffmann. Dori will be missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents;her first husband: Tim McCarthy; and her sister: Mary Jane Wauters.
A memorial service for Dori will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 537 N. Superior St. Appleton. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dori’s name to Operation Smiles are appreciated.
