Age 79, passed away peacefully at Cherry Meadows Hospice Care Center in Appleton, WI, Sunday February 8, 2004 after a long bout with cancer.
Donna was born November 6, 1924 in Farmington, Waupaca County, the youngest of three children born to the late Leroy and Gena (Olson) Rasmussen. She graduated from Waupaca High School at age 16. Donna married Richard Hendricks on September 21, 1945 and they shared 46 years together, before his death June 19, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her brother Gaylord Rasmussen (Fullerton, CA); brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Johnson; and nephew, Curt Johnson, both of Appleton, WI.
Donna was employed during WWII at Kimberly Clark, Lakeview Mill and later at Appleton Medical Center. After retirement, she returned to AMC as a volunteer until becoming unable. Donna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1941; she was a life member of the VFW, past President and Secretary of the Auxiliary to the Post #2778, past President of the 8th District Auxiliary and a member of the Appleton Chapter #404 Women of the Moose. Donna was an avid sports fan, always enjoyed a great game of cards with family or friends, gardening, cooking and playing the organ. Her heart was always open to others and no one was ever a stranger.
Survivors include daughter, Sandi (Orlyn) Traaseth, New Richmond, WI; son, Bill (Irene) Hendricks, Springboro, OH; son, Dave Hendricks, Appleton, WI; sister, Carral Johnson, Appleton; 9 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Grandchild; and sister-in-law, Lavern Rasmussen, Fullerton, CA. Donna is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 209 South Allen Street, Appleton, with Rev. Kurt Kovanen and Rev. Mary Beth Kovanen officiating. Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 10 from 4 until 8 p.m., and again at the church on Wednesday from 9 until 9:45. A V.F.W. Auxiliary service at 6:30 p.m. and a service by the Women of the Moose at 7:30 p.m. will both be held on Tuesday at the funeral home. The interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
She will be greatly missed by all who’s lives she touched.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the many Healthcare providers who cared for Donna during her bout with cancer.
