Donald W. Boya, age 78, of Appleton, died Sunday evening, January 28, 2007. He was born June 16, 1928, to the late Richard and Opal (Mott) Boya, in Appleton, where he was a resident all of his life. Don graduated from Appleton High School in 1946 and from Lawrence University in 1950. He served with the U. S. Army, in the 11th Airborne, during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge he taught Mathematics at Francis Parker School, in Chicago and was the head football and basketball coach. He then returned to Lawrence University in 1957, where he was the head basketball coach. Don entered the Admissions Department in 1964 and retired in 1987 as Director of Admissions. While at Lawrence he lettered four times in basketball and football, he was elected to the Lawrence Hall of Fame, he was a All Conference selection, most valuable player and Captain of the team, all for football. Don was a member of First Congregational U.C.C., the Oney Johnston – Edward Blessman American Legion Post #38, where he was active with the Badger Boys State and a member of Fox Valley Golf Club. Don is survived by his brother, Richard N. Boya II, New Berlin, WI; four nephews, Richard ‚ÄúNate‚Äù Boya III, Phoenix, AZ; John (Onna) Boya and Brian (Ruby) Boya, all of Indian Lake, NY; Thomas R. Boya-Quill, Los Angeles, CA; other relatives and friends. A memorial service for Donald will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 3, 2007, at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL U.C.C., 724 East South River Street, with Reverend Jane Anderson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Appleton. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 am, Saturday, until the time of the service. Memorial funds have been established for Lawrence University, St. Elizabeth Hospital and First Congregational U.C.C.
