Donald R. Vande Walle Sr.

Age 77, passed away at home on Wednesday September 26, 2007. Don was born April 26, 1930, in Green Bay, the son of Syl and Etta (Daanen) Vande Walle. He married Norma Liebergen in 1955. Don graduated from Catholic Central High School (class of 1948) and St. Norbert College (class of 1957). He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus for almost 50 years, and past Grand Knight of Council 7895 of Hortonville. He was on the board of directors for Valley Bakers Cooperative Association for over 25 years.
Don was a partner with his brother Robert in Vande Walle Chevrolet of Algoma from 1958 to 1974. He then purchased and operated Mehlberg Bakery in Shawano for 16 years. Don, Norma, and their five sons founded Vande Walle’s Candies of Appleton in 1987, where Don enjoyed working until his death. Don enjoyed traveling, gardening, and reading. He is survived by his wife Norma and five sons and their families: Don Jr. (Kim), and their children Megan, Amy & Jack; Michael (Mary), and their children Brittni and Nathan; Steve (Tess), and their children David and Sara; Thomas (Sue), and their daughter Elizabeth; Jay (Dawn), and their children Jacob, Joseph, Lauren, and Matthew; two sisters, Nancy (Ray) English, Fort Mead, FL; Elaine Siegrist, Appleton and one brother, Robert (Kip), Green Bay. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Dr. James, Green Bay. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for St. Mary’s Church, Greenville. Funeral Services for Don will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday October 1, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, N2385 Municipal Dr., Greenville, with Fr. Mark Vander Steeg officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday at the Wichmann Funeral Home Tri County Chapel 3212 S. Oneida St., Menasha, from 4-8 P.M. and again at the church on Monday from 10 A.M. until the time of services. There will be a 7:30 P.M. prayer service at the funeral home on Sunday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Turn right on Hwy 76, church is ¼ mi. up on the right. Coming from East of Greenville: Hwy 15 west to Mayflower Rd. Turn right on Mayflower Rd., to Hwy JJ. Turn Left onto JJ to Hwy 76. Turn left onto 76, church is ¼ mi. up on the right.
