Donald J. Verhelst

Age 81, died Wednesday, November 14, 2001. He was born May 8, 1920 to the late Jacob J. and Alice (Hartman) Verhelst in the Town of Wilson. Don married Lila Rauwerdink on June 4, 1941. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Oostburg, the Ozaukee Lodge #17 F. and A.M. and Hartman Lammers Post American Legion, Oostburg. Don enjoyed hunting, trout fishing and the family cottage. He was a co-owner of the Kool Kitchen Bottle Gas Company in Oostburg, WI.
He is survived by his wife Lila of Appleton; a son, Conrad L, (Judy) Verhelst of Green Bay; a daughter, Kay L. (Jeffrey) Vaughan of Appleton; two granddaughters, Valerie (Rod) Voegtline of Green Bay and Pamela (Chris) Zabel of Green Bay; two great grandchildren, Anthony and Lindsay Zabel. He will also be greatly missed by two brothers, Carroll (Joan) Verhelst of Pardeeville and Jacob (Tanya) Verhelst Jr. of Oostburg; three sisters, Alma Huibregtse of Minnetonka, MN; Estelle Harmeling of Oostburg and Phyllis Christian of Oostburg; a brother in law, James Wykhuis of Oostburg; a sister in law, Audrey Dickenson of Marshfield and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Wykhuis, a brother, Stanley (Barbara) Verhelst and three brothers in law, Robert Huibregtse, Ben Harmeling and Marvin (Nell) Rauwerdink.
A memorial service will be 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at First Presbyterian Church, 118 South Second Street, Oostburg with Rev. James De Camp officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday at CHURCH from 5:30 PM until 6:45 PM. A private family burial will take place at the Hartman Cemetery.
A memorial is being established in Donald’s name.
