Donald J. Landua

November 5, 1931 — March 12, 2004

Age 72, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, March 12, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Don was born November 5, 1931 in the town of Osborn, son of the late Roland “Jeff” and Alma (Schultz) Landua, and was raised and loved by his step-mother Leona “Nonie” Landua. Don was a 1950 graduate of the Kimberly High School. For a time, he worked at the Denmark and Black Creek Cheese Factories, and later in 1950 became employed by the Kimberly Clark mill in Kimberly. In 1951, Don began a three-year tour with the United States Army, and was stationed in Virginia Beach, Panama, Newfoundland, and Greenland. In 1954, he returned to his position at Kimberly Clark and retired from MidTec in 1993. In his retirement, Don was proud to have been promoted to Head Lawn Roller for Whitey’s Lawn Service as well as Head of Maintenance for the Darboy Club. Don was also a member of the William Verhagen Post #60 of the American Legion. Don absolutely loved the time he was able to spend with his dear friend Wilma over the past years. He also looked forward to traveling with his buddies, gardening, and spending summers at Weaver’s Resort on Pelican Lake over the years.

Survivors include his special friend and companion: Wilma DeMain of Gresham and their dog Chatoe; his children: Guy (Sandy) Landua of Butte des Morts; Kim (Mark) Helms of Seymour; Kay (Rick) Chadwick of Greenleaf; Jay Landua, Tod “Whitey” (Julie) Landua of Kaukauna; Lee “Bubber” (Barbara) Landua of Kaukauna; Amy (Chuck) Putzer of Oshkosh; Gidget (Rick) Menting of Combined Locks; fourteen grandchildren: Jesse, Cassie, Tracy, Craig, Brent, Marni, Heidi (Rob), Andrew, Josh, Jay Jay, Jeremy, Travis, Phillip, and Tony; two great-grandchildren: Alex and Tyger; a former daughter-in-law who remains a family friend: Jane (Tim) Pleshek. He is also survived by numerous aunts, cousins, other relatives, and many friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents; twin grandsons Marcus and Maxwell Menting, his step-mother Leona (nee Birkholz) Landua.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM Monday, March 15, 2004 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jan Frederickson of El Shaddai Christian Fellowship officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 PM until the hour of the service. There will be a legion visitation at 6:45 PM Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Don’s name.

Don was a loving father and grandfather who thought the world of his children and grandchildren. He was a friend to many and will be remembered for his sense of humor, his practical jokes, and his kind manner. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bar Lev, his staff, the entire staff at the Appleton Medical Center and the Martha Siekman Cancer Center for the wonderful care, concern, and compassion shown to Don and his family. You are all very special people and we will never forget what you have done for us.
