“Gene”

Gene McGinnis, 73, beloved husband of Melba McGinnis died May 16, 2005 at the Hospice at Cherry Meadows. Gene was born in Clarinda, Iowa September 12, 1931 to the late Donald J. and Florence (Coston) McGinnis. His life work was in sales and management. Gene was an active member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church where he faithfully served on many committees. He also volunteered in many venues. Gene had a generous and giving heart, and was known for his warm hugs and sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife Melba of Appleton, two sons: Allen (Patty) McGinnis of Texas, and Gary McGinnis of Missouri; three step-daughters: Karen (Larry) Lehner, Linda (Joe) Moffitt, Barb (Mike) Homolka; seven grandchildren: Laura Ann, Joshua, Alan, Patrick, Jennifer, and Lloyd McGinnis, and Julie Mosher; seven step-grandchildren: Andrew and Jennifer Lehner, Jesse, Joshua, Bill, Rob, and Tim Moffitt; and five great grandchildren, two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Edward and Earl McGinnis, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, and a brother-in-law.
A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 740 East College Ave in Appleton with the Rev. Mark Geisthardt officiating. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home in Appleton on Friday from 6-8 PM and also on Saturday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Gene’s name for Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Theda Care at Home, and the Hospice at Cherry Meadows.
Gene’s family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff of Theda Care at Home, Cherry Meadows, and the Siekman Cancer Center. We further thank the many people whose thoughts and prayers were with us.
