Donald E. Simpson, age 73, of Freedom, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 21, 2015 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born on September 22, 1941, in Appleton, to Earl and Anna Marie (Kerkhoff) Simpson. Don proudly served his country for three years in the U.S. Army. Following his release he worked at Elm Tree Bakery (later changing to Rich's Bakery), where he remained until his retirement.
Don enjoyed going up to his cabin in Phelps to deer hunt and fish, especially when his Dad was still able to go with him. He also enjoyed farming, driving his Kubota, and watching the Packers and Brewers games. Don read the Post Crescent and Freedom Pursuit from the front through the back page. One of his favorite past times was walking the family dog Tripper.
He is survived by his mother Anna Marie; brothers: Tom (special friend Jeri) Simpson, Jack Simpson, and Steve (Cathy) Simpson; sisters: Sherry (Keith) Simons, Barbara (special friend Glenn) Simpson, Gail Simpson, and Lisa (Ernest) Olsen, along with many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his father and best friend Earl Simpson.
Don was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, and great uncle, but most importantly was a good man who will be missed by all who knew him.
The funeral service for Don will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, July 24, 2015 at FARGO FUNERAL HOME, 400 W. Wisconsin Avenue in Kaukauna. Deacon Bruce Corey will be officiating. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4:00 pm until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Diabetes Association are appreciated.
The family would like to thank all of the 911 Responders for their rapid response and assistance. A special thank you to Linda Garvey and Keith.
