Age 68, died on Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Appleton Medical Center. Don was born on May 22, 1936, in Chicago to the late Garret and LaVerna DeRuiter. He married Valerie Ann Smith on December 10, 1994. Don was a mechanical sales engineer. He enjoyed sailing, was a member of the High Cliff Yacht Club and a former member of the Winnetka Yacht Club. Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Valerie; his sons, Donald Jr. (Pauline) DeRuiter and Robert (Lisa) DeRuiter; his grandsons, Cory and A.J. DeRuiter; his brother Gary (Marilyn “Susie”) DeRuiter; his cousin Nancy Burgess; his mother-in-law, Billie; his brother-in-law, Van A. Smith; and his special friends, Herb and Sally Bankstahl. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Mary. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2004, at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 North Superior Street, Appleton with Rev. Paul Brinkman officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. until the time of services.
