Loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, age 76, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2003. According to his wishes, he was able to return home and die in his cozy room, holding his wife’s hand. Don was born in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, on February 23, 1927, son of the late Arthur and Hilder (Nelson) Krueger. He loyally fought for his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. Don married Elaine Krabbe on November 11, 1950 and they enjoyed over 52 years of marriage. He retired from Wisconsin Wires. Don was an active member of First English Lutheran Church. He served on the church council, was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir. Don loved spending time on his plot of land in Door County, known as Rocky Acres. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting, especially his many years deer hunting at the Mile High cabin in Montana. Don showed his affection to people, giving everyone nicknames. Don’s family meant the world to him, and he will be greatly missed by them. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; 3 children, Jeffrey (MaryJo) Krueger, their children, Bryn and Janna; Lorrie (Michael) Hansen, their children Paul, Heidi and Stephen; Paula (Jeffrey) Paulson, their children Jake, Megan and Ben; and his sister, Dolores Mueller. Don is further survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers-in-law, Victor Mueller; Joseph Heuring; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Heuring. The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, June 21, 2003 at FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 326 East North Street, Appleton, with Rev. Willis Bloedow and Rev. J. Christian Quello officiating. Family and friends will be received at the church on Saturday, June 21 from 10:30 until 12:15 p.m. The interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Rennes Health Center and Appleton Medical Center for their loving care of Don.
