Dirk J. DeBraal

Dirk J. DeBraal, age 62, of Appleton, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, in his sleep on April 12, 2021.

Dirk was born in Appleton, WI to Jim & Joy (Hass) DeBraal on November 16, 1958. He graduated from Appleton East High School in the class of 1977, and went on to UW-Oshkosh where he earned a bachelor’s degree. After college, he worked for over 25 years at Outlook Graphics in Neenah, WI.

As an avid golfer, Dirk played in the Good Fellowship League at Reid Golf Course in Appleton for many years, and had his most memorable golf moment on the #16 fairway as he watched his 2^nd  shot go in to the hole for an albatross (double eagle). He was dedicated fan of Wisconsin Sports, the Badgers, Packers & Brewers. A lot of special memories were made attending Brewer’s Spring Training and Regular Season games with his daughter, Dana. Some of the simplest pleasures in life brought Dirk great joy: sitting around a ridiculously huge bonfire with close friends, biking, fishing, cooking, warm weather, a strong cup of coffee, going out to eat and sitting back to watch good live music with a cold beer in his hand. Most of all, Dirk’s extraordinary generosity left a lasting impression on those closest to him. His quiet compassion and kindness will be missed immeasurably.

Dirk is survived by his daughter, Dana (Tyler) Holtzheimer of De Pere; mother, Joy of Appleton; brothers, Bill (Chris) DeBraal of Fellsmere, FL, Pete (Deb) DeBraal of Kingsport, TN; nieces, Emily, Katie, Sophie & Lily; beloved dog: Duke; close friends, Bret Shorey and Laurie Fletcher;  many other dear friends and family .

Dirk was preceded in death by his father, Jim.

A Funeral Service will be held for Dirk at 1 PM  on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church, 900 N. Mason St., Appleton, WI 54914. Family and friends may visit at the church from 11 AM to the time of service.

 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fox Valley Humane Association in honor of Dirk’s love of animals.
