Dick Leslie Wereley

Dick L. Wereley, 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 6, 2018, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center, Green Bay, with his family by his side. He was born on January 4, 1943, in Appleton, the son of Leslie and Laila (Schuler) Wereley. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1967. Dick was united in marriage to Phyllis Ann DeShaney on January 21, 1993; however, they have spent 43 years together. He was an avid bicycler, loved clocks, trees, trains, and dogs. Dick will be fondly remembered for his love of building birdhouses, remodeling, and other woodwork.

Dick is survived by his wife: Phyllis; 4 children: Steven (Kris Bross) Wereley, Leslie (David) Thuecks, James (Julie) Vaughan, and Sarah (Phillip Schmitt) Vaughan; 11 grandchidlren: Katie and Grace Wereley-Bross, Duncan, Sophia, and Linden Perkins, Truitt Thuecks, Ashley and Jenna Vaughan, and Josephine, Selah, and Hadassah Schmitt; 2 siblings: David (Phyllis M.) Wereley and Debra (Joe) Lutter; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Mary “Suzanne” Wereley; and many fur babies.

Family and friends are invited to gather around Dick’s family at a graveside service at 10:00 am, on Friday, August 10, 2018, at Highland Memorial Park, 3131 N. Richmond St., Appleton. Interment will immediately follow the graveside service at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to the American Cancer Society in Dick’s name.

Dick’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Aurora BayCare Medical Center, Green Bay, the pallative/hospice staff at Aurora Hospice, and the staff at Shawano Health Care Services for their care and compassion.

Dick was well liked by all, a very kind, generous, and awesome man, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
