Diane Elizabeth Wernicke, a child of God, was called to her eternal home on July 29, 2023. Diane was born on June 6, 1944, in West Bend, daughter of the late Marvin and Evelyn (Lein) Wernicke. Diane was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother Marvin (Sally) Wernicke. Diane was a 1962 graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran High School, Milwaukee and a 1966 graduate of Dr. Martin Luther College (now MLC), New Ulm, Minnesota. She began her career in Christian Education in Helenville, Wisconsin. Over the years she was blessed to bring the truths of scripture to the students in several WELS elementary schools ending with St. Mark Lutheran in Watertown, Wisconsin. She played organ at worship services during her entire career as a called worker. She was a lover of music, and all things purple.
Diane is survived by a brother, Bob (Judy Zepplin) Wernicke; a sister Nancy (Ken) Howard; six nieces and nephews, Christine (Calvin) Wetzel, Tim (Brenda) Wernicke, Cheryl (Skip) Schroeder, Michelle Izhiman, Pamela (Pat) McDonough, and Kate (Dan) Nelson. There are also several great nieces and nephews.
The Christian Funeral Service for Diane will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church located at 129 S. Mason Street, Appleton, with Rev. Jon Kuske officiating. Interment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, Wisconsin at a later date. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 directly at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
