Ahrens, Derald H. “Bud”
Appleton
Age 81, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2007 at Appleton Medical Center with his family by his side. Bud was born July 21, 1926 in the Town of Center to the late Edwin Sr. and Hulda (Semrow) Ahrens. He graduated from Appleton High School in 1944 and served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Bud was an electrician at the Appleton Wire Works for the first half of his career and then the electrician for the Appleton Area Schools, retiring in June 1988. He was united in marriage to Shila Nagreen on February 6, 1965.
Bud was a faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the VFW Post 2778 and a volunteer at the Appleton Medical Center for many years. Bud also served two terms as Alderman for Appleton’s 2nd ward in the 1960’s. For many years Bud was a member of the Fox Valley Lutheran High School General Board.
Bud is survived by his loving wife, Shila, sons; Dale Ahrens of Winneconne, Bruce (Ruth) Ahrens of Neenah and Steve (Diane) Ahrens of Menasha, daughters; Deraldean Combs (special friend Jack) of Hortonville and Deborah Ahrens (special friend Harry) of Winneconne. He is further survived by his sister, Joan Hoeper of Neenah, brothers; Robert Ahrens (special friend Simone) of Victoria, TX and Gary (Erlinda) of Menasha, sister-in-law, Janet Ahrens and 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Bud will also be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his brothers, Edwin Jr., James and Melvin, who died in infancy in 1924, a brother-in-law Richard Hoeper and sister-in-law Betty Ahrens.
Funeral services for Bud will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison Street, Appleton, with Pastor Waack officiating. Friends will be received at church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m.
The family would like to thank to the staff of 2 South and the Rehabilitation Unit at Theda Clark Hospital, the staff at Rennes Health Center, the staff of 2 South and 3 South of Appleton Medical Center with a special thank you to Dr. Amelia Al-Abbas.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
