Age 67, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 24, 2011. He was born in Milwaukee on December 10, 1943 the son of the late John and Edith (Jacobson) Hyrkas. He was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy as a radar technician on the USS Pocono. After the Navy, he pursued a career in maintenance engineering culminating in 25 years of owning and operating his own service corporation. Dennis had a love of the outdoors, especially his cabin in Crivitz. He dabbled in woodworking, gardening, painting and drawing. His many four legged friends brought him infinite joy.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters: Tonia and Shannon; Barbara's daughters: Robin Henke, and her daughter, Tatiana; Kristen Henke, and her sons: Jamie and Jacob; Susan (Scott) Mindel, and their sons: Sam and Aaron; Karen (Jens Pursche) Henke, and their son, Max; brothers: Leroy (Sandie) Hyrkas and James (Carol) Hyrkas; sister-in-law, Margaret Hyrkas; and brother-in-law, William Petersen. He will be dearly missed by friends: Terry, Carl, Gord and Jim. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald; step-mother, Isla Hyrkas; brother-in-law, Russell Petersen; and sister-in-law, Betty (Lon) Schelling.
Per Dennis' wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date.
One of his greatest pleasures was time spent with Jacob, sharing his many interests and lots of laughs.
